Urban Advisory Council (CAU)
The consultative body for the Municipal Strategic Plan
Nine highly respected experts make up the Urban Advisory Council (CAU), the consultative body of Madrid City Council responsible for helping define the needs of the city’s new planning framework.
It is a collegiate body that advises on urban planning and architecture, as well as on the drafting of the new Municipal Strategic Plan.
Its role:
- To advise on the diagnosis of the current planning situation in the city of Madrid.
- To advise on the definition of the city model Madrid should aspire to, ensuring a balance between different areas and uses and moving towards sustainable environmental and social solutions.
- To promote academic debate and discussion on urban planning and development alternatives.
Composition
Created on 28 January 2024 by decree and chaired by the Mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and by the Delegate for Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, the Urban Advisory Council brings together Madrid City Council staff and experts from the professional, business and academic fields. Their knowledge and experience help take a comprehensive approach to urban planning.
